About Us

Silver Sun was founded in 1976 when Deanna Olson and Cheryl Ingram hit the road in a borrowed truck with three flat showcases and the best Native American jewelry that $5,000 of retirement money could buy. After three years of traveling sales, the two retired school teachers opened the Silver Sun Gallery on Canyon Road in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Silver Sun Wholesale opened in 1985 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Since the beginning, Silver Sun has been providing authentic, handmade Native American jewelry. Over the years, we have acquired knowledge about the precious "fallen skystone" turquoise, and understand the value, beauty and spiritual significance it holds. Silver Sun’s in-house designers collaborate with many talented silversmiths to create both traditional and unique contemporary jewelry that features rare, natural turquoise as well as other semi-precious stones.

Silver Sun has a large collection of rare and collectible American turquoise. From Arizona, we have Morenci, Bisbee, Kingman, Turquoise Mountain, Lone Mountain and Sleeping Beauty. From Nevada, we have Blue Gem, Carico Lake, Pilot Mountain, Royston, Number Eight and Candelaria, King’s Manassa and Dry Creek come from Colorado and Cerrillos and High Lonesome from New Mexico. Stones from these mines are available both in set jewelry and in loose stones to be used in your own design.

The majority of jewelry sold by the Silver Sun is made by Navajo artists. We are happy to provide a Certificate of Authenticity for every item sold.

Santa Fe Gallery Association Member

More than 200 art galleries and the talented artists they represent have helped to define Santa Fe as the nation’s second most famous art scene. A magnet for internationally known festivals and markets, Santa Fe is a continual buzz of artistic activity that keeps visitors and collectors returning year after year.

The Santa Fe Gallery Association is proud to represent nearly half of these galleries, galleries we feel stand above all others. With strong operational ethics, eyes for excellence and a deep love for their community, these galleries merit a visit. Please click on the SFGA logo to visit their website.

The Silver Sun is a proud member of the Indian Arts and Crafts Association.

We actively support the mission of the IACA  "to support the ethical promotion and protection of authentic Native American art and culture".  The IACA is unique in that its membership is made up of individuals and businesses that represent the entire industry of Indian arts: artisans, retailers, wholesalers, museums, governmental agencies, collectors and supporters.  Click on the logo for more information about the IACA and its programs.
